CITY COUNCIL AND ADVISORY BOARDS
Here's a short list of direct links to the officals that make decisions for out city and four out county. These councils and boards are resposible for legal, finincal, and safety issues within our community.
WICHITA CITY COUNCIL
The mission of the City Council is to provide policy direction for the City of Wichita in developing, implementing, and maintaining services to the citizens of Wichita. The Council establishes policy direction for the City by enacting ordinances, laws, and policies; adopting the budget; levying taxes; and appointing members to citizen advisory boards and commissions. The seven-member Council is elected to four-year terms on a nonpartisan basis with staggered terms of office. The Mayor and City Council Members can run two consecutive four-year terms. The Mayor's position is full-time, while Council Members are part-time. Salaries and election years vary from year to year. Six Council members are elected by district, and the Mayor is elected at-large.

BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN BOARD
The Bicycle-Pedestrian Advisory Board advises the City on issues related to bicycling and walking in Wichita. The Board provides advice directly to the City Council, participates in planning and project development, evaluates policies, and makes recommendations to City departments. It plays an influential role in implementing Wichita's Bicycle Master Plan. Board members also spend additional hours outside board meetings learning more about agenda items and tracking projects.
Meeting Information
We do not require any type of pre-registration or formal sign-up.
The goal is to remove as many barriers to volunteering as possible and create a safe space for everyone to make a difference.

DISTRICT 1 ADVISORY BOARD (DAB 1)
The District 1 Advisory Board receives staff reports from the Wichita Police Department, Wichita Fire Department, and the Wichita Public Library; hears presentations from City staff and community partners; and votes on zoning cases. Meetings are open to the public, and we encourage resident feedback and questions. The meeting agenda includes links to upcoming presentations and staff reports, and it is posted on the Friday before the meeting.
Meeting Information
Please call during open shop hours. While no sign-up is needed, we do operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
We can only train as many people as we have Coordinators (technically trained and experienced volunteers) on the floor.

DISTRICT 2 ADVISORY BOARD (DAB 2)
The District 2 Advisory Board receives staff reports from the Wichita Police Department, Wichita Fire Department, Wichita Park and Recreation Department, Strategic Communications, and the Wichita Public Library; hears presentations from City staff and community partners; and votes on Metropolitan Area Planning Department zoning cases. Meetings are open to the public, and we encourage residents to attend and provide feedback as well as ask questions. The DAB 2 meeting packet includes the meeting agenda, minutes from the previous meeting, and supporting documents and materials. The packet is posted by the Friday before the meeting.
Meeting Information
While there are other volunteer options in the shop, the majority are bicycle repair-related. For first timers in the shop, you need to complete an orientation with one of our Volunteer Coordinators.

You will go through a checklist covering bicycle repair at your own pace to make sure you are comfortable in repairing bicycles.
​
The orientation takes about 1-to-2 hours, so please plan for that time.

After your orientation, you are welcome to return at any time with no need for 1-on-1 support, and we will answer any questions you have as they come up.

Each volunteer hour equals $5 in-shop credit and can be used at any time once completed.
